Nick Dyer has been a practicing physician assistant for the past 12 years, having completed both his undergraduate and graduate studies at Wayne State University, where he obtained a BA in Psychology and a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Initially, he embarked on his career as a physician assistant in the emergency department for 3 years before seizing the opportunity to join Dr. Ekpo’s orthopedic team.
Since transitioning to orthopedics, Nick has seamlessly integrated into both the operating room and clinic settings. His passion for his work is evident as he finds fulfillment in being a part of patients’ journeys to wellness. He firmly believes that their role is to assist patients in achieving their goals and reclaiming the quality of life that knee and hip pain may have impeded.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Nick cherishes spending time with his wife, 2 daughters, and their yellow lab. Their activities often revolve around sporting events or leisurely outings in the park. Nick’s love for the outdoors is reflected in his hobbies, which include traveling to National Parks, beekeeping, and engaging in renovation projects.
Matthew Draper is a Nurse Practitioner at the Michigan Joint Replacement Institute, specializing in Adult Joint Reconstructive Surgery. His educational journey began at Central Michigan University in 2009, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Sports Medicine and Health Fitness. During his six-year tenure as an athletic trainer, Matthew pursued further education, obtaining a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration from Bellevue University in 2012 and an Associate’s degree in Nursing from Jackson College in 2015.
Throughout his nursing career, Matthew worked exclusively in the Emergency Department at Henry Ford Jackson until 2021, when he transitioned to working alongside Dr. Ekpo. During this time, he pursued advanced education, completing a Master’s of Science from Simmons University School of Nursing. He is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner in the state of Michigan, accredited through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Joining Dr. Ekpo’s team as a member of the Adult Joint Reconstructive Service, Matthew’s responsibilities include both clinical work and serving as a surgical first assistant in the operating room. His areas of expertise and interest encompass joint replacement, sports medicine, and injection therapy.
As a vital part of the care team, Matthew begins by conducting a thorough examination, engaging in discussions, and assessing the patient’s concerns. Collaboratively, he works with patients to devise personalized care plans tailored to their specific needs. Treatment options span from conservative, non-surgical interventions to surgical procedures, depending on the individual’s condition and preferences. Matthew’s diverse background as an Athletic Trainer, Registered Nurse in the emergency department, and now as a Nurse Practitioner equips him with a wealth of knowledge and experience in managing acute and chronic conditions.
